We’re pleased to share a major milestone in Falcon Timber’s ongoing commitment to technical excellence and innovation: our Door Technical Team has officially relocated to a new, purpose-built facility in Queensferry.

This move marks a significant step forward in our capabilities. The relocation was designed to bring specimen manufacturing in-house and enhance our EN-based testing programme. We’re proud to confirm that this vision is now a reality.

What’s New?
The new facility consolidates our design, sampling and compliance operations under one roof, creating a controlled environment for manufacturing fire-test specimens. This centralisation allows Falcon Timber to:
• Maintain full control over sample accuracy and consistency
• Improve traceability for certification and EXAP documentation
• Accelerate the journey from design to furnace testing
• Strengthen collaboration with hardware partners

This investment reinforces our position as a Systems House and enhances the technical support we offer to our manufacturing partners.

Why Fire Door Sampling Matters
Fire-test sampling is a critical process that ensures every detail of a test specimen is documented and repeatable. It underpins the validity of our Fields of Application (FoAs), EXAPs, and Q-Mark documentation – resources our customers rely on to manufacture certified doorsets.
Sampling includes:
• Verifying core materials, dimensions and moisture levels
• Recording lipping specifications, intumescent placement and seal types
• Documenting hardware configurations and installation details
• Ensuring full alignment with design drawings

As regulations evolve, particularly toward 2029, our team is already working to meet future standards.

A Decade of Testing Expertise
Falcon Timber has conducted over 500 full-scale fire and smoke tests across our STREbord, STREdor, DUOcore and many other product families. Each test expands the scope available to our customers, covering:
• Glazed and unglazed designs
• Single and double acting doors
• Multi-performance applications including security and smoke control

We typically run 20–30 tests annually, each requiring around two months of preparation.

Supporting Our Partners
Falcon Timber’s Door Technical Facility Team works closely with:
• Training and technical support
• Manufacturing partners to ensure correct use of EXAPs and FoAs
• Hardware suppliers through joint testing initiatives
• Certification bodies to maintain scheme compliance

For technical queries or questions for our door team, be sure to get in touch with us.

We’re proud of the team’s achievement and excited about the enhanced support this facility will offer to our partners.
